Beaumont Girls' N.S
The pupils at Beaumont Girls' N.S. have just completed their ninth Bothar na nGabhar Lenten project. During the past six weeks the girls have undertaken a wide range of fundraising events, from raffles to sponsored cycles. They have received wonderful support from teachers, parents, grandparents and the local community. They recently presented a cheque for €3650 to Bóthar representative Eleanor Hosford. This money will fund the transport of 12 goats to Tanzania. Bothar assists families to overcome malnutrition and poverty in a simple sustainable manner. The living gift of a goat will lift the recipient family out of poverty and despair. Scoil Barra Naofa Cailini has actively supported Third World development for many years. To date the school has sent 106 goats to Africa. Well done to all involved.
Melleray Community
Members of the Melleray Community presenting a cheque for €2,804 the proceeds of their annual Table Quiz in the Sportsman's Bar Cappoquin, Co. Waterford, to Bóthar Representative Jeremy Meehan, on 12 January. The final sum raised was €3,100.
This dynamic group came into being initially as a response to the tsunami of 26 December 2004, and has maintained the momentum by supporting a different charity each year since then, with the generous support of the entire community. A great night was had by all, with the final result going to a nail-biting tie-break! Comhghairdeas agus míle buíochas to chách.
The Donegal Creameries Mooathon
Bóthar would like to say big congratulations to everybody that participated in The Donegal Creameries MOOATHON to raise money for Bóthar. This year the participants raised enough money to send a dairy goat to a struggling family in Africa. The Mooathon is a serious race with an attractive cash prize for the winner, with male and female pitted against each other; the ladies getting a time handicap. And yet, serious and challenging as the run and the course are, it's a lot of fun too. Participants dress up in their finest 'Cow' gear and this year saw many running the full 13.1. miles dressed from head to foot in the funniest and most bizarre outfits and costumes.
This year's race saw local hero and runner extraordinaire Pauric Mc Kinney takes the honours in a time of 1.15.21. With a great run, Martin Gormley, also of Letterkenny Athletic Club came in second. First lady home was Josephine Killeen from Dublin with a time of 1.30.41 followed by Fiona Donovan.
Prizes in the various age categories and all the results together with lots of photographs of that fun day can be fully viewed at www.mooathon.com
