Climate: mostly hot, dry desert; temperate in northwest; arctic in north
Pakistan suffers from a number of natural hazards such as frequent earthquakes, occasionally severe especially in north and west; flooding along the Indus after heavy rains.

Bóthar in Pakistan:  Bóthar has only been working in Pakistan since April 2007.  Pakistan is one of Bothars newest project countries. Bóthar provides struggling families with local dairy goats.  

PAKISTAN
Goat Scheme as the tool of rehabilitation for Women of Earthquake areas

Location: 5 villages in Azad, Kashmir Region

Total number of families to be assisted over the entire course of the project: 200 families will receive goats in the first year

Animals:  Paheri local breed dairy goats

Other inputs:  Each family will receive 50 fruit and wood tree seedlings

Training:  Committee Members and project field staff will organise training for the women. The animals' care management and housing will be the main priority

Brief synopsis of the project:  In the earthquake stricken Kashmir area Identify, Merge and Action (AIM) have targeted women and will provide them with training and 2 local dairy goats each. Trees will be provided also.

Pass-on obligations:  Each woman will pass on the first female offspring to another selected individual

Expected benefits:  The project families will increase their income and improve their quality of life and also further rehabilitate themselves after the earthquake.

Co-financing partners:  AIM is co financing a fraction of the budget
