Togo is a narrow strip of land on Africa's west coast, its coast formed part of the Slave Coast where captives were shipped abroad in the 17th century.

There have been prolonged periods of unrest in Togo around the times of political elections. In the most recent conflict in 2005 it is believed that over 500 people were killed and up to 40,000 people fled the country.
Bóthar in Togo:
Togo is one of Bothars most recent project countries being established in 2007. Bóthar works with a number of different animal species in Benin including goats, bees, oxen and pigs.

Project title: Partnership with Elevages sans Frontieres (ESF, French NGO)
Location: Southern region of Togo.
Total number of families: 360
Animals: Alpine goats, bees, grasscutters, poultry, oxen, rabbits and pigs.
Other inputs: Veterinary aid, technical training and sales assistance.
Training: Basic animal health management, animal husbandry, hive and zero grazing unit construction and maintenance.
Brief synopsis of the project: Over the next 3 years it is hoped that 360 families will be presented with a range of animals, the type of animal they receive ultimately depending on their present situation and subject to conditional limitations. The benefit of each animal differs but those that receive them should be in a position to pass-on to others within this period. Training on how to care for and manage these animals successfully will be provided by French NGO, AVSF-CICDA, local agricultural assistance organization, ICAT and Elevages sans Frontieres.

Expected benefits: The project should allow the recipient families to earn an income from the sale of produce and in so doing, reinvigorate the whole local area.
