Location: Mountains of the Bucovina region (Borca village)
Animals: 100 sheep, 10 rams of Turcana breed
Other inputs: Veterinary aid and technical training
Training: Training will be given in animal breeding and farm product marketing. Women, men, girls and boys will be involved in training together.
Brief synopsis of the project: The project's main purpose is to improve income levels and nutritional status of the recipients by revitalisation of old traditional activities like shepherding.
Pass-on: A sheep of 20kg or more will be passed on to a new family selected by the committee based on the initial selection criteria. Male offspring will be used primarily for breeding local sheep or sold. Each family will pass on 10 sheep during 3 years.
Expected benefits: By 2010, families from Borca Village will have achieved their self-sustainability, improving nutrition, increasing income and preserving traditional activities.
