Bosnia-Herzegovina is still struggling to recover from three years of bloody war during 1992-95 between Bosnian Muslims, Croats and Serbs as part of the break-up of Yugoslavia. The Serbs massacred thousands of Bosnian-Muslims and engaged in ethnic cleansing.
The war left Bosnia's infrastructure and economy devastated. Around two million people, about half the population, were displaced and unable to return to their homes in safety.
Crime and corruption have flourished in Bosnia & Herzegovina, unemployment is very high and investment is slow.

Bóthar began working in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2005. Bóthar works with dairy cow projects in Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Total number of families to be assisted over the entire course of the project (original animals and supports only): 200 families
Animals: 96 Simmental Breed Dairy Heifers
Training: Agrinas Bosnia, the local partner NGO will have carried out training on increased milk production.
Brief synopsis of the project: This project will seek to increase the agricultural output of the farmers of Sanski Most. By providing quality Simmental heifer’s milk production will dramatically increase. Average incomes will thus increase.
Expected benefits: Improved agricultural practices and raised incomes.
