Bóthar in Benin:
Benin is one of Bothars most recent project countries being established in 2007. Bóthar works with a number of different animal species in Benin including goats, rabbits, bees, oxen and pigs.
Benin project profile:
Location: Southern Benin
Total number of families: 315
Animals: Alpine goats, bees, poultry, oxen, rabbits and pigs.
Other inputs: Veterinary aid, technical training and sales assistance.
Training: Basic animal health management, animal husbandry, hive and zero grazing unit construction and maintenance.
Brief synopsis of the project: By the end of 2010, the expectation is that 315 families will have benefited directly by the use and “passing-on” of various animals, enabling those families to earn some money from the sale of produce, which will in turn accommodate fundamental needs such as good nutrition and education, and thus afford them the opportunity to change their present situation. Training on how to care for their animals and achieve this goal will be provided by ESF Benin.
Pass On: Normal Pass on Procedures apply.
Expected benefits: It is hoped that as a result of the change that will come to the lives of the beneficiaries, this benefit will spread northward, through the ‘Pass-on’ principal, and increase over time, improve the lives of more and more people of Benin through agriculture and micro-enterprise.
Co-financing partner: Elevages sans Frontieres.
Local partner: ESF Benin.
