Bóthar in Peru:Bóthar began working in Peru in 2003. Bóthar provides project families with alpacas, llamas, sheep, cows, poultry and tree saplings. Bóthar has also supplied veterinary and farming equipment. Bothars projects in Peru put a high emphasis on protecting the environment and using farming methods and tree planting to improve soil quality and try to stop soil erosion.

Project title: Agro-ecological Development in Andean Highlands

Location: 47 communities in the departments of Apurimac, Cusco, Puno

Total number of families: 1,920

Animals: alpacas, llamas, sheep, cows, poultry

Other Inputs: Training, 40 veterinary medicine supply kits, reforestation, eco-tourism facilities, cook stoves

Training: in adequate use of water, soil, flora and fauna, in management and conflict resolution instruments, gender approach, micro-enterprise management, value-added production

Brief synopsis of the project: The project seeks to promote production activities and natural resource conservation, income and food production increases, environmental protection.

Pass-on: Livestock, seeds and experience will be passed on to 2000 families.

Expected benefits:: 143 workshops, 72 exchanges, 120 hectares of reforested land, 2000 organised farmers improved their market relations, 50% of participating communities will have sustainable use of their resources.
