The Donegal creameries Moo-a-thon

The race director Sean McFadden and Karl Henry just before the race started.

Last year Sean McFadden organised the Donegal Moo-a-thon, a 21 km run starting in Kilmacrenan town, Co. Donegal which was held in September to raise money for selected charities. One of those charities was Bóthar.

The day was a huge success with runners turning up from all over the country and beyond! Several mischevious entrants turned out sporting various types of cow apparel and contributed to the colour of what was a great day out. The event raised over €3,000 for Bóthar to sponsor in-calf dairy heifers for struggling families in the developing world.

Due to the success and fun of last years event, Sean has kindly decided to stage a second Moo-a-thon this September 2007.

Race Details & Rules

Time:
10am start on 30th September 2007

Distance:
13.1 miles / 21 km – Moo-a-thon

Location:
Starting in Kilmacrenan town, just outside Letterkenny, the route will be along the Lough Salt road to Downings. The finish will be in Downings just before the beach.

There is a €500 cash prize for the fastest runner:
All Finishers will get a special finishers medal that has actual horns!

There are also prizes for 2nd and 3rd, for best fancy dress and for the fastest Corporate and Club Teams.

There will also be someone running from the event team dressed as a farmer, probably Sean, and any cow that beats the farmer will be put into a raffle for a prize - truly making this a race to the finish line!

Race Rules:
All entrants MUST wear black and white clothing on race day. Other acceptable apparel includes horns, bells, black & white body paint and cow suits of any colour.

Any littering along the course outside of the Milking station zones will mean disqualification - we hate litterbugs!

All cows must stay on the left side of the road and let faster cows past on the right.

As a general principal we hate rules and being told what to do, but we want to have a safe and enjoyable event so the rules above must be abided by all entrants.

Race Packet pick-up
This includes - Race t-shirt, race number, and goody bag. Entrants can also register and collect their numbers on race day in Kilmacrenan if necessary from 9am - 9.45am.
