Bee My Honey for Valentine’s Day

Normal Valentine’s cards just don’t create the buzz that Bóthar cards do!
Spread the sweetness this coming Valentines Day by supporting Bóthar’s Valentine’s Appeal. Our Honey Bee Appeal has been raising funds to support and grow our honey-bee projects throughout the developing world since 2001.

It’s very simple to support the appeal. All you have to do is show your ‘swarm’ and caring nature and give your ‘honey’ a bee hive for Valentine’s day. On supporting the appeal you will receive a special Valentine’s card to give to your ‘honey’ on the 14th February.
A gift of Bee Hives to your ‘honey’ is also a gift to an African family! Bees provide many benefits to our project families in Uganda, Tanzania, Ghana, Cameroon and Zambia. Native bees produce a sweet, medicinal honey and valuable wax, both of which are in high demand in the local markets.

Each family that receives a gift of honey bees from Bóthar is provided with training in the art of bee keeping, as well as the harvesting and the marketing of the honey and wax. Bóthar also provides protective clothing that can be shared amongst a community group. Beehives require almost no space and, once established, are inexpensive to maintain. After all, bees do not require feeding! For this reason our Bee keeping projects are most concentrated in the very poorest areas of our project countries with families who would not have the resources to keep a bigger animal such as a goat or a cow.

More importantly honey bees pollinate trees and plants in the surrounding area, thereby improving some fruit and vegetable yields. In this way beehives can improve the lot of a whole community.

For as little as €50 you can contribute to the Bóthar Honey Bee appeal and help to alleviate poverty and hunger for poor children in the developing world. €50 will sponsor one hive of Honey Bees, protective clothing and training for a struggling family. It takes three hives of Honey Bees to make up one full bee-keeping unit that will start to make a difference for a family. Any amount that you can afford to contribute to this programme would be greatly appreciated.
