Thank you to Physical Heifer and Goat Donors
The rate of success at which our heifer and goat projects has grown this year has been overwhelming for everyone both here in the office and on the ground in our project countries. This would not be the case if it wasn’t for the kindness of farmers around the country who donate a physical in calf dairy heifer or a dairy goat to families in need. We are then able to match the animals with our cash donors and send your living gift to its new family.
Most of our physical heifer donors are regular donors and some even donate a few times a year. On collection days these physical animal donors arrange for someone to look after their farm and responsibilities for the day. They set off, often very early in the morning, and drive to a remote farm in Co. Limerick to deliver their precious cargo.
It is often an emotional day on the farm when donors hand over a heifer they had carefully selected months earlier for a new life. Most of these heifers have been cherished a little bit more by their farming families in Ireland because of the life-giving change they were destined to make for an impoverished family.
Bóthar staff always try to spend a little time with each physical animal donor to say thank you on the day but with all the commotion and comings and goings, sometimes people slip away before we can catch them!
Therefore we would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the farmers around the country who have made the Bóthar animal airlifts possible.
I look forward to working with you in 2006. Happy Christmas and a peaceful new year,
Maria McCormack
Airlift Co-ordinator.
