Summer 2005:
Jennie's happy returns!
Mrs Jennie Cahill of Boreenmanna Road, Cork, has a rare talent that she wishes to share with our readers. Last year, in celebration of her 90th birthday, Jennie and a group of friends produced over 600 delightful knitted Easter chicks – over 400 knitted by Jennie alone! Each chick is designed so that a small egg, such as a Cadbury's "Creme Egg" will fit snugly inside. The eggs were generously sponsored by local shopkeepers and Jennie sold every last chick in a local school, raising a sum in excess of e1,600 for Bóthar.
Not content to rest on her laurels, she now wishes to offer the pattern of her success to all knitting enthusiasts, and we are happy to reproduce it here. Hopefully next Easter will see many more such knitting circles hatching throughout the country. Many happy returns to Jennie from all at Bóthar!
