Spring 2005 :Pigs (and goats) Might Fly!
Bóthar is currently recruiting 600 Irish women to raise almost €200,000 to fund the airlift of dairy goats and breeding pigs to poor families in their project areas in Africa and Eastern Europe.

The 2005 Ladies Mini Marathon is the platform that will allow up to 600 walkers or runners to participate and fundraise on behalf of Bóthar. Speaking at the recent launch of this particular fundraising project, Pat McCarrick, Fundraising Projects Director with Bóthar said "The participation of as few as 20 ladies from each county, raising between €200 and €300 each, will make this venture a reality. Something as simple as the gift of an Irish dairy goat can transform the lives of a family living on the edge of poverty in the Developing World providing them with food and even a modest income. The results are amazing but we need constant financial support to continue our work."

It is hoped that funds raised in the Mini Marathon in 2005 will be enough to facilitate two airlifts, one of dairy goats and one of breeding sows. It costs €250 to send a pig and €300 to send a goat. This cost includes training, transport and veterinary backup.
