Spring 2005: THE TSUNAMI DISASTER
The scale of this natural disaster has never before been witnessed in the modern world. Tens of thousands of families have been bereaved. Millions of lives have been savagely altered irrevocably. Thousands of towns, villages and neighbourhoods have been wiped off the face of the earth.

Looking to the future, the situation might seem hopeless. However, the swell of public support from all over the world is reassuring. What is needed now is the expertise to help the victims reconstruct their lives and their livelihoods.

Since 1991, Bóthar has been working in countries that have been devastated by war - Uganda, Rwanda, Lebanon and most recently Kosovo. Working with families who have lost loved ones, whose houses have been destroyed, whose livelihoods have been taken from them, we have managed to help thousands of families back to the road of self sufficiency.

The scale of the disaster is daunting but who is it that said, ‘it is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness'

So let's get on with it!
We know we can rely on your support.

General Secretary, Bóthar
