Christmas 2004 : Acknowledgement

Bóthar would like to express their condolences to the family of Harry Boyd, from County Antrim who sadly passed away this autumn. Although Harry, aged 82, was only lately introduced to Bóthar he endeared himself to all of us who came in contact with him in that short time. Harry wrote a few moving letters explaining to us why he was motivated to such thoughtful action and, with the kind permission of his family, we are able to reproduce extracts from some of his letters. Harry Boyd will be remembered for his kindness.

‘There is a programme I watch called My Favourite Hymn and the last question asked is How Would You Like To Be Remembered? I want them to remember me for helping those poor families as best I could.' As he browsed through Bothar's literature trying to decide which type of animal he might like to donate, he spotted the diary goats. 'I had rated goats very low in my mind, but after reading all about them from your information I now find them tops". As his birth sign was Capricorn Harry decided that this was the animal he had to go for.

‘So I have decided that before I face the final curtain, instead of a tree in the garden of remembrance I will buy a Goat! Can you give her a name? I would like her to be called Harry'.

Since March of this year Harry sent three goats on three different occasions to three impoverished families thus, changing their lives. The shades of night are falling fast so I consult my stop smoking start saving money box and I find that I have enough saved to buy another goat, my third goat. Three is a lucky number, there are, after all, three leaves on a Shamrock.'

On behalf of the families who received Harry's goats, Bothar would like to thank his family and to assure them that Harry will be remembered for his kindness.
