Autumn 2004:
Bóthar granted administrative funds from Heifer International

In the specialised area of Agricultural Development Bóthar works closely with a small international family of organisations. In previous issues of the Bó Vine you may have read about our friends in Heifer Nederlands, Heifer International (USA), Send-a-Cow (UK) and Heifer France.

Together we share experiences, advice, resources and results in the hope that we can learn from each other and help each other in our fight against poverty.

We do not duplicate spending in an effort to use your donations most efficiently. For example, Bóthar sponsors a number of animal projects in partnership with Heifer USA and other local charities who are already established in many of our project countries, rather than wasting money by setting up second offices and duplicating resources in those same countries.

Likewise, Heifer USA admires the generosity of the Irish people and our donors understanding and interest in our specialised development work. It is this generosity that has allowed Bóthar to be jointly active in 12 countries with Heifer International, sponsoring projects involving 10 different animal species.

In an effort to ensure the continued support of Bóthar for joint projects Heifer has in the past agreed to assist us with our administration/overhead costs. Since 1999 this injection of designated funds has helped us to build the infrastructure in the Bóthar office without using your donations.

Recently Heifer International agreed to continue assisting Bóthar for a further three years. Heifer International is now subsidising six salaries, the production of educational videos, the updating of our computer system, training on HIV/AIDS issues, information leaflets and posters, T.V. and Radio advertising and project country field visits for Bóthar staff to see our work first hand.

This financial assistance from Heifer International is greatly appreciated by Bóthar and has helped us to grow your organisation over the last 6 years. In a sense it is an investment in your organisation by Heifer so that together we can continue to do even more work in our fight against poverty and hunger.
